accused teen killer headed to fulton state hospital

A Callaway County killer is headed to the state mental institution. Friday, prosecutors in the case accepted Ryan Koebel’s plea of not guilty by reason of insanity for the January 2012 stabbing and shooting death of Koebel’s grandmother Karen Cates in her Holts Summit home. Koebel also fired at police and state troopers following the killing. Mental health evaluations concluded Koebel suffers from schizophrenia.
