A Russellville – area family loses a house and a son in the same day. Firefighters were called to a house fire on Route ‘V’ Thursday afternoon. The homeowner and her two grandsons managed to get out of the burning house okay. About a half hour later, the homeowner’s son 39 – year old Anthony Gilpin was rushing to the scene when he lost control on Route ’C’ near Stringtown Station Road. Gilpin ran off the road and the car overturned .. throwing him and a passenger out. Gilpin was killed. The passenger .. 41 – year old Frederick Cundiff was badly injured. He’s in critical condition at University Hospital.
Investigator think the boys were playing with matches and started the fire. The home is called a total loss. No one was hurt in the fire. The Red Cross is assisting the family.
