Civil suit filed in columbia firefighter death

The family of the Columbia firefighter who died at University Village Apartments is now suing the school.

The wife and daughter of Lieutenant Bruce Britt accuse MU in the lawsuit of knowing the complex was dangerous, and not fixing the problems. Lieutenant Britt would die from his injuries while trying to help residents during a walkway collapse in February.

Bruce Britt’s wife, Leigh, and daughter, Stormy, are listed as plaintiffs in the suit filed this week in Boone County Circuit Court. The school has announced it will close University Village Apartments in June, and tear it down.
