Now that the historic preservation crowd has gone on to another ‘challenge’ .. Cole County Commissioners are looking ahead to the demolition of the ‘old’ jail and the sheriff’s house ..

Presiding Commissioner Marc Ellinger (hard-G) says when the new courtroom complex at the Courthouse is built .. it should serve the county’s needs for decades to come. Historic preservationists tried to stop the plan .. saying the old jail should be kept as a landmark.
