Arnold Schwarzenegger praises ‘courageous’ “True Lies” onscreen daughter Eliza Dushku

Robert Cianflone/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — Arnold Schwarzenegger has taken to Twitter to praise his onscreen daughter Eliza Dushku, who revealed she was sexually assaulted as a 12-year-old while she worked on their film True Lies.

Dushku claims that then-36-year-old stunt coordinator Joel Kramer, who was responsible for her safety on the movie, “lured” her to his hotel room, and eventually “sexually molested” her on a bed.

Afterward, she reportedly told a friend, who confronted Kramer.  But later, Dushku says, she broke some ribs during a botched stunt, “by no small coincidence,” she commented.

Kramer, a veteran of dozens of movies, vehemently denied the charges.

In response to their co-star Tom Arnold’s tweet that the cast and writer/director James Cameron would have done something if they knew what allegedly happened, Schwarzenegger replied, “You bet your a** we would have done something.”

Arnold added, “I’m shocked and saddened for Eliza but I am also proud of her – beyond being a great talent and an amazing woman, she is so courageous.”

Speaking at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, Cameron praised Dushku, saying, “It’s just heartbreaking that it happened to her,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Cameron added, “This was happening under our noses and we didn’t know about it — I think going forward, it’s important for all industries … to create a safe avenue for people to speak up.”

“Had I known about it, there would have been no mercy,” said Cameron. “Now especially, I have daughters. There’s really no mercy now.”

Jamie Lee Curtis also weighed in, via an essay in the Huffington Post. Mentioning that Dushku only told her about the abuse a few years ago, Curtis said, in part, “Eliza’s story has now awakened us from our denial slumber to a new, horrific reality. The abuse of children.”
