(LOS ANGELES) -- Margot Robbie is earning rave reviews for her portrayal of disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding in the movie I, Tonya, but in the February edition of ELLE magazine, the Australian actress reveals a bigger career goal -- directing.
“I still love acting," the acclaimed actress insists. "But I’ve spent the last 10 years on a film set, and I realized that if I am pouring my heart and soul into a film, I want to be one of those voices in the conversation making decisions.”
Robbie -- whose film roles include a trophy wife in The Wolf of Wall Street; a feminist Jane in The Legend of Tarzan and comic book villain Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad -- says playing Harding in I, Tonya was her most challenging role yet.
“Playing Tonya [Harding], who’s very much alive and is widely documented, can be more intimidating,” she explains.
I, Tonya, co-starring Allison Janney and Sebastian Stan, is currently out in limited release.
