David Lee/Netflix(NEW YORK) — DeWanda Wise, the star of Spike Lee’s Netflix series She’s Gotta Have It, just jumped into the big leagues.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Wise will co-star in the upcoming Marvel film Captain Marvel, which stars Brie Larson as the hero. The film, which is set in the 1990s, will follow Larson as Air Force pilot Carol Danvers, who later becomes the super-powered Captain Marvel after her DNA is fused with an alien’s after an accident.
In addition to Larson and Wise, the film also stars Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and another Star Wars veteran, Samuel L. Jackson, who will reprise his Marvel Cinematic Universe role as Nick Fury.
Captain Marvel — Marvel’s first film to center on a female hero — is set to open March 8, 2019.
