ABC/Paula Lobo(NEW YORK) — The Marvel universe is uniting for a good cause.
Three stars of the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War – Paul Bettany, Karen Gillan and Sebastian Stan — announced the Marvel: The Universe Unites charity campaign on Good Morning America this morning. The initiative will raise funds for some important children’s charities.
“I think it’s important, obviously, for Marvel to give back because — as I always like to think and say — we just wouldn’t be here without the fans and the kids, ultimately,” Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes in the Captain America films, tells ABC Radio.
As part of the campaign, cast members will take a creative picture or video with new Avengers: Infinity War toys and post it to social media using the hashtag #HeroActs. When their posts hit a collective 1 million likes, Marvel will donate $250,000 to Starlight Children’s Foundation, which supports children with serious illnesses.
Gillan, who plays Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy films, is ready for the challenge.
“I’m gonna be taking some hilarious pictures with all of the toys,” she says. “So you guys can try and match my hilarity.”
On March 3, Avengers: Infinity War products will be included in the Marvel: The Universe Unites Amazon Wish List, allowing customers to send toys directly to Starlight.
And rounding out the week-long campaign, on March 3 and March 4, shopDisney.com and Disney store will donate 10% of weekend Marvel product sales to Make-A-Wish.
Marvel partners, like Hasbro and Funko, will also be doing their own fundraising as part of the campaign.
