Oprah Winfrey cuts Russell Simmons from spiritual advice book

OWN(LOS ANGELES) — Amid the mounting sexual misconduct allegations against hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, Oprah Winfrey has dropped contributions by the Def Jam founder the from her latest book, The Wisdom of Sundays, ABC News has confirmed.

The book, which offers spiritual advice has been on best-seller lists since its launch in October 2017, shares selections from conversations between Oprah and her guests that were featured on her OWN series, Super Soul Sunday. Some of those guests included Deepak Chopra, Elizabeth Gilbert, and other motivational speakers, religious leaders, and authors. 

According to Marlena Bittner, a spokeswoman for the publisher Flatiron Books, Simmons’ initial feature, which centered around meditation’s impact his life including, “musing on the soul, abundance and wealth,” will no longer be in future future editions of the book.

The newest edition will become available starting in February. 

The publisher’s announcement comes in response to an initial inquiry from The New York Times

Bittner adds the decision to remove Simmons from the publication was made jointly by Winfrey and the publisher, however they do not say when the actual decision was made.

NYT also reports that Simmons was also scrubbed from Daymond John’s self-help book Rise and Grind per the request of Simmons.
