From a kid watching the Cardinals to headlining the stadium, Kenny Chesney is amped up to play St. Louis

Allister AnnWhen Kenny Chesney takes the stage Saturday night at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, it’ll be a career first.

“You know what, we’ve never played, I don’t believe… a stadium venue in St. Louis,” he explains. “We’ve always played the amphitheater or we’ve played the arena several times, just kinda flip-flopped back and forth. This is the first time, I believe… So we’re looking really forward to it. Man, we really are,” he adds.

For the superstar from East Tennessee, it’ll be a sentimental moment.

“It’s so ironic,” he reflects. “I mean, years ago when I was a kid, I went to a St. Louis Cardinals game with my dad and my grandmother. And I think about that and how life moves us forward, and now here I am with a band, playing my music, in that place. You know, it’s really special. And, you know, to think about that is really cool.”

It’s already been quite a week for Kenny: His latest single, “Get Along” is number one, and Pollstar ranked his Trip Around the Sun Tour as the fifth highest-grossing North American trek so far this year.

Next Friday, Kenney’s Songs for the Saints album arrives in stores and online.
