Summer Plays On for Darius Rucker and Lady A, and Charles Kelley can’t wait for the fun to begin

When Lady Antebellum kicks off their co-headlining Summer Plays On Tour with Darius Rucker Thursday in Toronto, it may be hard to tell who’s enjoying themselves more — the fans or the folks onstage.

“One of the biggest reasons that we, together with Darius, kind of approached this concept of touring again together was because we had so much fun last time,” Charles Kelley says. “And still to this day, it was the biggest tour we had ever had. It was just so much fun.”

“The one thing that I love about Darius,” Charles adds, “not only is he a great guy but he’s a seasoned entertainer. And we finally feel like too as a band, we’ve been at this for over ten years now, we feel we know how to hold a crowd and put on a really fun, entertaining show.”

Darius and Lady A previously toured together back in 2012. This time, Charles and his bandmates, Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood, are excited to be able to deliver a show that’s packed with nothing but hits.

“You know, when the crowds come they’re gonna get over three hours worth of music that is just straight sing-alongs, constantly,” Charles explains, “and that’s what we want.”

“Darius is just such a great entertainer, [we’re] great friends, and we’re gonna have a lot of collaborative moments on it too. And obviously I’ll have my golf buddy there with me during the day,” he adds, laughing.

The title track of Lady Antebellum’s latest album, Heart Break, is currently nearing country’s top ten. Meanwhile, Charles also sings on Darius’s latest single, “Straight to Hell,” along with Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan.
