Miranda Lambert admits Pistol Annies’ "Got My Named Changed Back" is her way of dealing with her divorce from Blake Shelton

RCA NashvilleOn Friday, Interstate Gospel, the first album from Pistol Annies since 2013’s Annie Up, comes out.

It’s also the trio’s first record since Miranda Lambert‘s much-talked-about divorce from Blake Shelton in 2015. Miranda, Angaleena Presley, and Ashley Monroe don’t shy away from difficult topics on the new project, especially when it comes to its first single, “Got My Name Changed Back.”

“I think it’s so important to tackle real issues and talk about stuff that we’ve been through in our life, but [with] a spin of humor,” Ashley says. “I love to laugh. I think it’s important.”

“So we wrote this song,” she continues, “and then I told them, I’m like ‘Man, there’s a lot of people right now that are going through divorces, and they can’t find the silver lining, and they’re gonna be so happy when they hear this! They’ll be able to dance and maybe smile for the first time in awhile.'”

Miranda admits “Got My Name Changed Back” is a fun way to address the pain of her split.

“[It’s] a way of reclaiming your humor after you’ve been so sad, you know…” she says. “Heartbroke and all the things divorce is. To me it’s celebrating, reclaiming a part of yourself.”

“You! Your name,” Ashley agrees. “Your original last name is always important to a girl anyway. So it’s like, I got it changed back. You know, it’s like ‘Back to me!'”

Pistol Annies are set to perform on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday night, before Interstate Gospel comes out on Friday. You can watch for them starting at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.
