Thomas Rhett Says His Dad Doesn’t Write A Bad Song

Thomas Rhett has recorded quite a few songs written by his dad Rhett Akins including his #1 hits “It Goes Like This” and “Get Me Some of That,” but he says there are plenty of songs his dad has pitched him that he hasn’t recorded. He explains though, that it’s not because the songs aren’t good. “The thing is, he’s never sent me a bad song,” says Thomas. “I’ve never listened to a song and been like, ‘Man, that’s terrible.’ But it’s either, man I love that song for me; or no, I don’t love that song for me’ or that would be awesome with this person singing it.

Thomas says when it comes to songwriting, his dad is fantastic. “He doesn’t write a bad song, in my opinion. Just, some are more me than others and some are more other people than me.”

Thomas’ latest song, “Make Me Wanna,” was not one his dad wrote. It was actually co-written by Thomas, Bart Butler and Larry McCoy.
