dead teen named in latest columbia killing

Columbia police have identified a teenager who was shot to death Sunday afternoon on the city’s north side. 17 year-old Deante Smith was hit by gunfire in the Cross Creek subdivision along with another person. Smith died early Sunday evening in a Columbia hospital. The second person was driven to the hospital, and suffered non-life threatening injuries. Police say there was an armed robbery reported in the area a short time before someone started shooting.
