Lucasfilm/Disney(NEW YORK) — There have been some Star Wars fans who have been critical of the portrayal of an aging Luke Skywalker as a cynical, pessimist in The Last Jedi, the latest chapter in the epic film series.
Even Luke Skywalker, himself, Mark Hamill seemed to agree, earlier this month saying in IMDB interview that he “had trouble accepting” what Last Jedi writer and director Rian Johnson envisioned for Luke.
But Hamill took to Twitter on Tuesday to clarify his remarks.
“I regret voicing my doubts & insecurities in public,” Hamill tweeted. “Creative differences are a common element of any project but usually remain private. All I wanted was to make good movie. I got more than that- @rianjohnson made an all-time GREAT one!” He added the hashtag, #HumbledHamill.
In the IMDB interview, Hamill did say that his initial impression had been mistaken.
“I have to say, having seen the movie, I was wrong,” he said, adding that being pushed out of one’s comfort zone is a good thing, especially in the case of yet another Star Wars movie. “Because if I was just another benevolent Jedi training you padawans, we’ve seen it,” Hamill said. “And nobody could do it better than Alec Guinness and I shouldn’t even try.” Guinness played Obi-Wan Kenobi, the aging Jedi who trains young Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars.
