“New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” hosts Ryan Seacrest & Jenny McCarthy talk freezing weather, stepped-up security in Times Square

ABC(NEW YORK) — New Year’s Eve in New York City’s Times Square is predicted to be the coldest in decades, but Ryan Seacrest and Jenny McCarthy will be spending the night in those bone-chilling temperatures hosting ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.  The two admit they’re somewhat unprepared for Sunday night.

“When we watched the show — before we worked on the show — the show was an hour, as I recall,” Ryan tells ABC Radio.  “Now, it’s five-and-a-half or six hours. We didn’t calculate that!”

Jenny adds, “And there’s four hours of rehearsal that day, so we’re outside for, like, 10 hours!”

“In terms of what will we do to prepare, I think we’ll have extra layers,” Ryan says. “And I’ll probably have a notepad or a pen so if I can’t speak, I can write what’s happening.”  As for how many layers they’ll be sporting, Jenny has the answer.

“Seven layers,” she says, firmly. “OK, that sounds like a dip I make,” Ryan laughs. “But seven layers of clothing, fine.”

As if dealing with the weather wasn’t hard enough, the security in Times Square this year is expected to be the tightest yet, following the two terrorist attacks in New York in recent months, as well as the Las Vegas shooting.  But Ryan and Jenny say they have no fear.

“The NYPD is the best in the world…it truly is the safest place, I think, to be on New Year’s Eve,” says Ryan.

Jenny loves the NYPD, too — before she married her husband Donnie Wahlberg, she used to randomly kiss a cop every year during the show.

“I had a lot around me to choose from,” she laughs. “But there still [are] hundreds on each corner. I’ve never felt more safe than I do in Times Square.”
