ABC/Lou RoccoWe’re barely two weeks into 2018, and the awards are already piling up for Dolly Parton, as the Emmys, Guinness World Records, and the RIAA are all coming calling.
The Sevierville, Tennessee native will receive The Governors’ Award for Outstanding Achievement in Community Service January 20 at the 32nd MidSouth Regional Emmys. Her Smoky Mountains Rise telethon, which raised money to help her hometown after 2016’s devastating wildfires, is also nominated at this year’s ceremony.
If you flip through the pages of Guinness World Records 2018, you’ll find Dolly now holds the titles for both “Most Decades with a Top 20 Hit on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs Chart” and “Most Hits on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs Chart by a Female Artist.” It was Dolly’s 2016 re-recording of “Jolene” with Pentatonix that put her over the top.
“Jolene” has also passed half-a-million in sales, picking up gold certification from the RIAA, as did Dolly’s original recording of “I Will Always Love You.” Whitney Houston’s version has sold more than three million copies, earning Dolly a triple-platinum plaque.
Dolly’s own 1980 hit “9 to 5” is also officially platinum now, having passed the one-million mark in sales.
