Lindsay Ell’s "Criminal" breaks through in the U.S.

ABC/Image Group LA Much like her fellow countrymen High ValleyLindsay Ell already has a string of hits and award nominations in her native Canada. Now “Criminal” is poised to be her breakthrough song in the U.S…which Lindsay says her fans seemed to know all along.

“It’s crazy to watch fans react to ‘Criminal,'” the Calgary, Alberta native says. “It’s the song that I’ve had the longest on [my album] The Project.”

“And I had fans for years tweeting me, being like, ‘Lindsay, when are you gonna release this song?” she explains. “So the fact that I finally got to name it as my single and give it the chance that I felt it deserves, and to see their reaction to it… I mean, I have my first top thirty at country radio, ever. It’s so exciting.”

“Criminal” is currently only a few steps away from breaking into country’s top-20. Lindsay’s U.S. debut, The Project, was produced by Sugarland‘s Kristian Bush. She heads out on tour with Kristian and Jennifer Nettles this summer.
