All Rights Reserved.(NEW YORK) — A day after President Donald Trump slammed late-night hosts Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon and Conan O’Brien during a speech at a South Carolina rally, the trio teamed up Tuesday for a sketch in which they contemplated how to respond to the POTUS’ criticism.
In the cold open to Colbert’s The Late Show and Fallon‘s The Tonight Show, the two hosts discussed the president’s comments with each other in a video chat.
Fallon greets Colbert with “Hey lowlife!” — a reference to Trump’s nickname for him at the rally — to which the Late Night host replies, “Hey lost soul!”
“Be a man,” chides Colbert, referencing Trump’s tweet at Fallon on Sunday. “I’ll try,” Fallon replies. Colbert answers Jimmy’s “What are you up to” with “busy having no talent.”
Fallon then tells Colbert about the president’s description of the hosts as “no talent, low-life lost souls.”
“Well that’s not right,” jokes Colbert. “That’s Conan.” He then calls O’Brien — who appears onscreen, in the middle of shaving and seemingly unaware that “the real estate guy who sells steaks” is president.
“Give him time,” he urges his fellow late-night hosts, adding, “be civil — if we’re not careful, this could start to get ugly.”
Colbert and Fallon then make lunch plans to eat at Red Hen, the Washington, D.C.-area restaurant from which White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was asked to leave over the weekend, because she worked for Trump.
