ABC RadioJordan Davis not only celebrated the #1 success of his debut single at a party Monday at Nashville’s Fat Bottom Brewing Company, he was also processing some impressive news: “Singles You Up” is the most-played song on country radio so far this year.
Since his breakthrough hit was also the first time he’d ever released a song, the Louisiana native admits it took him a minute to realize how well “Singles You Up” was doing.
“I think it took a couple months to kinda catch on and see that this song’s really resonating with people,” Jordan recalls. “The amount of people showing up and knowing that song was kinda shocking.”
This summer on Jake Owen‘s Life’s Whatcha Make It Tour, Jordan says the crowd is taking over.
“I think my band guys can even attest that we don’t even have to sing that song,” he continues. “Once we start into the first lick… everybody jumps in.”
As a newcomer on his first major tour, Jordan confesses he’s continually impressed with Jake’s ability to “fly by the seat of his pants.”
“It’s incredible to me to see his set list side-stage every night, and then see the songs they actually play,” Jordan explains. “…I think that is something that any artist wants to get to a point with their band that out of nowhere, it can go this way [or the other]. And as a fan, and a spectator, you would never know that that happened with him going back to his talkback mic and going, ‘Hey, I don’t want to play that song, we’re gonna play this.'”
This Saturday, Jordan, Jake and Chris Janson play the Washington Town & Country Fair in Washington, Missouri. Jordan’s new single, “Take It from Me,” is currently making its way up the chart.
