No Shoes Nation gives Kenny Chesney hope that we can all "Get Along"

Allister AnnKenny Chesney chose his latest hit, “Get Along,” as a reminder that we can all work together and be kind, even in divisive political times. So now that the lead single from his Songs for the Saints album is so popular that it spent two weeks at #1, does he feel like we’re doing any better in that department?

“Oh, I’m not the person to ask. I mean, I don’t know,” he tells ABC Radio candidly. “It’s a big old world out there, and I can’t give any kind of social commentary on how we’re all doing about getting along.”

“But I think if you look at your phone enough or watch TV enough, you can see that we’re not doing very well,” he laughs.

The one place Kenny definitely senses some hope is on tour, among the fans he calls No Shoes Nation.

“You know, that’s one thing I’m very proud about — my audience — because it’s a very eclectic mix of people,” he tells ABC Radio. “And there are people from different backgrounds, different religious beliefs, different upbringings, different political beliefs.”

“But they all have one thing in common…” he adds. “They love to live life and live out loud and they love music.”

Yesterday morning, Kenny appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America to perform another track from Songs for the Saints, “Better Boat.” On Thursday, he’ll take his Trip Around the Sun Tour to Toronto, Canada, before playing Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday. Songs for the Saints is out now.
