You might assume Trisha Yearwood is channeling Ol’ Blue Eyes on the cover of Let’s Be Frank, her new album of Sinatra covers.
But the two-time CMA Female Vocalist of the Year reveals the inspiration to wear a man’s hat, coat and tie actually came from Toni Braxton‘s 1992 video for “Love Shoulda Brought You Home.”
“It was so much fun!” Trisha says of the photo shoot. “In my head, from the very beginning, when I decided to do this record… I saw a suit and tie, a hat.
“There’s an old Toni Braxton video,” she explains. “She comes in in a suit and tie and she’s singing, and I thought it was the most gorgeous thing I’d ever seen. I’m like, ‘I’m doing that some day!'”
Still, Trisha’s shoot for Let’s Be Frank was almost finished and the suit and tie hadn’t yet come out.
“We’re almost done,” she recalls. “We’ve shot, like, seven setups and everything’s beautiful, everybody’s happy. And the photographer, Russ Harrington, says, ‘Is there anything you haven’t done that you want to do?’ I’m like, ‘I want a damn picture in a suit and tie and a hat!'” Trisha laughs.
“So I put this on…” she continues. “But I’m like, ‘I want that look like you’re taking the tie off.’ And I did that, and that was the shot.”
“And when I went back through and looked at all these, it just popped off,” she tells ABC Radio. “And I’m like, ‘There’s the cover.'”
“But it’s so funny to me,” says Trisha, “because that was the shot I wanted all along, and it turned out.”
