"What Makes You…" busy: Luke Bryan juggles work on new album while judging "American Idol"

ABC/Craig SjodinHow will Luke Bryan follow-up his latest number one, “What Makes You Country”?  Well, the answer to that question reveals his next album may not be as far away as you might expect.

“We have some stuff on my current album that we’re weighing whether we want to [release it as a] single…or not,” Luke explains, and then goes on to hint that his next release could come from a new record.

“I’ve been in the studio,” he tells ABC Radio. “I’ve recorded some songs that we’re really, really excited about. I’m writing a lot. I’m excited to be writing.”

One of the reasons Luke’s so energized about his new music is because he was so busy during his first season of American Idol that he had to take a bit of a break.

He remembers what life was like when What Makes You Country came out in December of 2017.

“What’s funny is, I put an album out, I had Idol going on — pre-taping,” Luke recalls. “I had an album release. And I mean, I had so much going on, [that] I think, kinda, for the first time in my career, I just took about six legitimate months off of writing.”

“And now, it’s interesting,” he adds. “The past month, I’ve really been excited to be back writing and creating.”

As we wait to see what’s next from Luke music-wise, you can tune it to watch him in action on American Idol, as the new season continues tonight at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
