Missouri’s governor is crediting state Department of Agriculture (MDA) director Chris Chinn of Clarence and department employees for what he describes as a tremendous year at the state fair in August.

Governor Mike Parson praised MDA, during a Jefferson City event this week celebrating pork producers statewide. The governor tells the audience that nearly 350,000 visitors attended the August state fair in Sedalia. That’s up two-and-a-half percent from last year.

“I want to give credit … one I want to give it to my (MDA) director (Chris Chinn) for heading that up and how much her friendship means to me. But I really want to direct it to all of you employees that are in the back (at MDA headquarters on Missouri Boulevard in Jefferson City), that are on the sides, that are kind of behind the scenes,” Parson tells MDA employees, who literally lined the wall of the room to hear the governor speak.

The agriculture showcase, family-friendly attractions and shows, fair food and drink and the carnival ranked high on the list of why fairgoers traveled to Sedalia.

“I just appreciate all of you what you do day in and day out for this state in agriculture, because we, myself or Chris (Chinn) could not get done what we get done if it’s not for having good people to work for us. So all of you employees, I thank you very much for being here today and what you do everyday for the citizens of this state. So thank you for that day. Let’s give them all a hand,” Parson says to applause.

This year’s Governor’s ham breakfast was a sellout, with 1,000 tickets sold. The 2023 Missouri state fair’s theme was “where traditions grow.”
