Columbia’s city manager confirms the search for the city’s next police chief is down to four finalists. City manager De’Carlon Seewood tells 939 the Eagle that the names of the four finalists will be released on Monday.

Mr. Seewood says 18 people applied for the chief’s position, and he praises all of their qualifications. The four finalists will be in Columbia on October 18 and 19, a Wednesday and Thursday.  Mr. Seewood encourages you to attend an October 18 forum at 6 pm in the city council chambers downtown.

Matt Stephens is currently serving as Columbia’s interim police chief. Former Chief Geoff Jones retired in August, after serving as chief since 2019.
