The SEC’s coach of the year has received a contract extension through the 2028 season.

The UM Board of Curators approved the contract extension for Mizzou football coach Eliah Drinkwitz this weekend. Mizzou finished the 2023 season with a record of 11-2 and a 14-3 victory over #7 Ohio State in Friday night’s Cotton Bowl in Arlington.

Coach Drinkwitz says the passion of the Mizzou fan base, alumni and donors is awesome, adding his team is proud to represent them. UM System President Dr. Mun Choi  praises Coach Drinkwitz, saying Mizzou football and Mizzou Athletics are on the rise and that the university will continue to invest in the future of Mizzou football. UM Board of Curators chair Michael Williams says a thriving Mizzou football program is important to the University.

As for the 88th Goodyear Cotton Bowl in Arlington, former Mizzou walk-on Cody Schrader had 128 yards and a key fourth quarter touchdown in the game. Coach Drinkwitz credits his team’s work ethic for the win.

“Tonight was a testament to a wilderness brotherhood. A bunch of guys who had fought through adversity their entire lives and career. We’re not blue-bloods, we’re dirty hard-working brotherhood that loves each other (and) fight for each other,” says Drinkwitz.
