Columbia College officials praise the turnout at this month’s annual career fair. More than 100 students and alums attended the event at Southwell gymnasium. Columbia College dean of student affairs Dave Roberts tells 939 the Eagle that students and alums learned about opportunities they wouldn’t otherwise know about.

“There’s groups that may say something in the medical field but they’re hiring accountants and looking for interns in graphic design. And so it’s a great opportunity for not only out employers to learn about our students but our students to really learn the breadth of what our employers offer,” Mr. Roberts says.

The cities of Columbia and Jefferson City, Central Bank, Columbia Public Schools (CPS), MU Health Care and EquipmentShare were just some of the 70 employers who participated. Dean Roberts is expressing his gratitude to all of the employers who participated. The event was so packed that the school had to use golf carts to transport employers and students to the gymnasium. Several of the employers are were Columbia College graduates:

“I walk around and try to thank people and talk to people. And the number of times somebody says I’ve hired Columbia College students continually, they’re great students, we have a great experience, that’s why we keep coming back and hiring them. It’s nice to see us, I’ve seen several alums here today who are now employers hiring. And so it’s great to see them coming back in that role on the other side of the table,” says Roberts.

Veterans United Home Loans, Northwestern Mutual and the Waffle House were some of the other employers who participated. Many of them conducted interviews on-site.
