The National Weather Service (NWS) says Columbia, Jefferson City and most of the 939 the Eagle mid-Missouri listening area could see large hail, strong winds and tornadoes this afternoon and again this evening. NWS St. Louis meteorologist Mark Fuchs tells 939 the Eagle that we’re looking at TWO rounds today.

“The initial onset of severe thunderstorms could be, or would likely be, between the hours of noon and 2 o’clock in the afternoon across much of central Missouri, including Mexico, Columbia, Jefferson City, Moberly. That area,”  Fuchs says.

Mr. Fuchs says the bigger severe weather threat will be later on. NWS St. Louis meteorologist Chris Kimble tells 939 the Eagle that is expected to begin at about 5 pm and the severe weather threat will continue until around midnight. There are currently no watches in effect.

“If you’ve got plans to go out and about town or whatever: we’re not telling everybody to cancel plans. But make sure before you leave you know what’s going on,” Mr. Fuchs says.

Keep your radio tuned to 939 the Eagle for updated weather forecast information. You should also keep fresh batteries with your radio and should have flashlights as well, in case there are power outages.
