Hit Writer Jim Photoglo Releases Folk Album “Halls of My Heart”

JPhotoglo_MainJim Photoglo has released his first album in five years, Halls of My Heart. It is his first album since 2009’s #1 GRAMMY-nominated folk album “Is It Me?” (and the first in which he wrote most of the album solo).

After a solo pop career, Jim Photoglo moved to Nashville in 1984 to concentrate on songwriting (although occasionally toured as a bassist for Carole King, Vince Gill and Dan Fogelberg). Among his cuts are songs recorded by Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, The Everly Brothers, Dusty Springfield, Leroy Parnell, Patty Loveless, Highway 101, The Oak Ridge Boys, Pam Tillis, Tanya Tucker, Travis Tritt, Neil McCoy, John Anderson and Kathy Mattea. Included among these are the #1 singles Fishin’ In The Dark by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Hometown Honeymoon by Alabama.

Jim Photoglo’s career is as varied as it has been successful, but the love of songwriting and performing acoustically has remained closest to his heart.

Jim’s musical history is impressive. The past decade has found Jim at the top of his game with the release of three critically acclaimed CDs including Sparks In The Radio, which landed at #30 on the Folk DJ Best Albums of 2005 list, and his most recent CD, IS IT ME?, the #1 album in June of 2009 which received a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Folk Album.

In the early ’80s, he recorded three albums for a major label, opened for The Beach Boys, and toured as a singer/musician with such musical greats as Carole King, Dan Fogelberg, Vince Gill, Nicolette Larson, Kathy Mattea and Wendy Waldman. It was while on tour with Wendy that she and Jim began writing together. Impressed with Jim’s talent, Wendy suggested that he move to Nashville. Jim wisely took her advice to heart resulting in his songs being recorded by legendary artists such as Marty Robbins, The Everly Brothers, Brenda Lee and Dusty Springfield as well as up-and-comers like Garth Brooks, Travis Tritt, Patty Loveless, and Faith Hill to name a few.

Although Jim was experiencing success as a commercial writer, his heart was still in performing, which led him to record two more solo CDs. Soon Jim’s inherent sense of humor got the better of him when he founded the group Run C&W with ex-Eagle, Bernie Leadon and Amazing Rhythm Aces leader Russell Smith. Run C&W developed a “cult” following for their bluegrass versions of classic ’60s soul music and recorded two CDs.

After Run C&W disbanded, Jim continued writing and performing, starting another band with a collection of all-stars from the Nashville studio scene called the Vinyl Kings. Although their forte was to faithfully re-create their favorite ’60s rock and soul music on stage, they eventually recorded two CDs of original Beatle-inspired songs which became bestsellers on CD Baby.
