An organization that’s been created to support Boone County’s first responders is launching a campaign to raise awareness about the challenges and sacrifices that our first responders are facing.

First Responder Support (FRS) interim executive director Rick Rowden tells 939 the Eagle that FRS wants to ensure that the public is aware of the sacrifices made by our first responders each day.

“I mean the truth is that every time there’s a call that comes in, there’s the potential for danger to happen to our first responders. And of course we cover dispatch, EMT, fire and police in Boone County,” Rowden says.

Mr. Rowden says first responders frequently work behind the scenes, putting their lives on the line to keep our community safe. He says their heroic acts often go unnoticed and says the new campaign aims to change that. The campaign is titled “The heroes among us: making their reality known.” The FRS’ Rowden says it’s high time we recognize our first responders.

“It can be anything from sort of how a first responder responded to some crime, some incident, some crash, some fire that was going on and sort of went maybe above and beyond the call of duty to maybe they see police officers out playing basketball with some kids or whatever it might be,” says Rowden.

The FRS was created about a year ago. Mr. Rowden says every day is an opportunity for selfless service and sacrifice, in the world of first responders.

“We are going to be sunshining actually dispatch calls, maybe some body cam footage, things like that that will really bring this in a very real way to our communities,” says Rowden.

He encourages you to submit your stories on their website.
