(LISTEN): City solid waste manager Steve Hunt discusses the roll cart rollout on Columbia Buzz

The historic and much anticipated transition to roll carts and automated pickup of household trash got underway Monday morning in Columbia. Collection dates remain the same but garbage now goes to the curb inside a roll cart. The important rules are place the wheels against the curb, keep the cart least eight feet from other objects, and the lid completely closed. The city recommends using garbage bags inside cart, but it’s not mandatory. Remember, the roll carts are city property and when not at the curb for collection day, they need to be stored by a house or garage. Assistant Director of Utilities Steve Hunt, who is also the manager of the city’s solid waste utility, answered questions Sunday on 93.9 The Eagle’s Columbia Buzz program.
