City switching out 1,400 roll carts

Columbia city officials said Monday they are in the middle of exchanging more than 1,400 roll carts for their trash customers who wanted a different size. Residents had an opportunity to choose from three sizes of roll carts when the city rolled out their new automated pickup of curbside garbage. Residents who took no action were delivered the middle-sized cart, which resulted in no change to their monthly bill from the city. Residents have the option of choosing a smaller cart, and a slightly lesser monthly charge, or a larger cost for a little higher monthly charge. Exchanging cart sizes is free for the first 120 days. After that there will be a $25 fee.
