Former Tolton basketball star sentenced to prison

A former Father Tolton basketball star and member of the Columbia’s Porter basketball family was sentenced to prison on Friday. 22-year-old Coban Porter, the brother of Denver Nuggets star Michael Porter Jr., was sentenced to six years in a Colorado prison for the death of a woman in a drunk driving crash last year. Coban Porter was driving drunk about 2 a.m. on Jan. 22 in 2023, when he ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle near Denver University, where he was a student and basketball player. The 42-year-old driver of the other vehicle was killed and a passenger seriously injured.

Coban Porter’s older brother, 24-year-old Jontay Porter also made headlines last week. Jontay Poter was a Mizzou star and also a former Father Tolton standout. He was a member of Toronto Raptors until Wednesday, when he was banned from the NBA after being investigated in a sports betting scandal.
