Appeals court rules in favor of Jefferson City student suing over haircut

A student who sued a Jefferson City middle school after claiming they forced him to cut his hair has won an appeal.

ABC 17 reports an appeals court sided with Joey Huerta and his mother in their lawsuit from 2017. The suit says the wrestling coach at Thomas Jefferson middle school forced Huerta to cut his hair for competition. The appeals court ruled that since female wrestlers were given the option of wearing a head covering, then male wrestlers should get the same option.

The Jefferson City School District said in 2019 that the coach no longer works for the school.
